Report on activity and sustainable development 2020

Chapter 2. Anticipate

The airport at Almaty, the economic capital of Kazakhstan, is a major regional hub for central Asia.

FOCUS ON CENTRAL ASIA

In May 2020, TAV Airports (46.1% owned by Groupe ADP) signed an agreement to acquire outright ownership of the airport at Almaty, the economic capital of Kazakhstan. Almaty is both the largest airport in central Asia and a major regional hub. The agreement also provides for Groupe ADP to design an extension to the existing terminal, which, on completion, should be able to handle up to 6 million passengers per year. The aim of this project is to upgrade the Kazakh platform to the highest standards of environmental performance consistent with gaining IFC (International Finance Corporation) EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certification.

Bahrain, a growing regional hub for the Middle East

Designed by Groupe ADP, the new passenger terminal at Bahrain International Airport opened on 28 January 2020, after eight years of construction. The project forms part of the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 designed to develop a sustainable and diversified economy. By improving the Kingdom’s connectivity, this extension strengthens its status as a major regional hub, and increases airport capacity to 14 million passengers per year. Groupe ADP was awarded the design and oversight consultancy contract for the terminal expansion and upgrade project in 2013.
